Standard-Papierformat

Der Mac will sich einfach nicht die Einstellungen zu einem Drucker außer der Reihe merken. Der Drucker kann eh nur ein Papierformat, Labeldrucker, und das ist nicht A4. Wie nun?

Auf meiner Seite mit den Terminal-Befehlen habe ich auch Set Printer Presets from the Terminal, ein MacOSX Hint, den ich selber im Aug. 11 als funktioniert kommentierte.

Jetzt will er nicht. Juni 2013, MacOSX SnowLeo und Mountain Lion.

Schließlich der Rat: laß uns mal in CUPS gucken. Das ist localhost:631. Auch nichts gescheites nur der Hinweis cupsctl WebInterface=yes einzugeben. Ah, das ist ein Terminal-Befehl, ergo eingeben und voila CUPS in seiner ganzen Pracht.

Erst einmal richtig auf der CUPS-Webseite ist es beinahe Mac-einfach, dem besch… Label-Drucker sein Papierformat als Standardformat zuzuordnen.

Hat viel Zeit gekostet, viel probieren und funktioniert dann doch nicht, viel googeln, viel andere um Rat fragen. Darum hier, zum einfachen wiederfinden, diese kurze Notiz.

Die Erfahrungen haben gesammelt: Martin, Karl Gerhard und meinereiner.

Default papersize

The Mac can't be convinced to use a specific papersize with that odd printer. That printer, expensive label-printer to name it, accepts one size only and that's not A4 or legal. Where is help?

I do collect terminal-commands for my easy access and there is one Set Printer Presets from the Terminal from MacOSX Hints and a commentary from august 2011 by myself, stating: works.

Now is june 2013 and it doesn't work, neither MacOSX SnowLeo nor Mountain Lion.

Finally: let's check CUPS. CUPS means localhost:631. No help at first glance but then there is a terminal command mentioned cupsctl WebInterface=yes and that does the trick. CUPS in all its glory.

Ten years later CUPS looks nearly Mac-like. Set that label-printer to use that papersize as standard and it was done.

Lots of trial and error, lots of googeling, ask others for their advice, looked like a waste of time. Not to waste that much time again, written down here for an easy find.
